Lankford's Win Is A Victory for Conservatives In A Conservative Versus Conservative Battle
Posted June 26, 2014The mainstream media and even several conservative radio talk show hosts have tried to portray James Lankford's overwhelming victory in Tuesday's primary as a victory for the establishment vs the Tea Party. The only problem with that analysis is that it is false. Both Lankford and his closest competitor T.J. Shannon are conservatives.
James Lankford was elected to Congress in 2010 as an outsider. He won a primary that he was not supposed to win. He ran as a conservative outsider. He had a great grassroots campaign. He is an economic and social conservative.
Fast forward to 2014 - James Lankford runs for the U.S. Senate. He is endorsed by Congressmen Trey Gowdy and Darrell Issa. Senator Tom Coburn says good things about him. He gets support of thousands of conservatives in Oklahoma. Many thought there would be a runoff but instead Lankford gets 57% of the vote although he had 3 opponents. Once again his grassroots campaign delivers a lot more than what the polls say.
